Empower Lives as a Kenosha Literacy Council Volunteer!
Are you passionate about education and helping others? The Kenosha Literacy Council needs you! We’re actively seeking dedicated volunteers to tutor immigrants, refugees, and life-long Americans in reading, writing, and speaking English. Help our students achieve life’s necessities like completing job applications, helping their children with homework or understanding medicine labels. With many tutoring options available, you’re sure to find one that fits your schedule!
The Kenosha Literacy Council’s need for volunteer tutors is growing everyday. 7% of adults in Kenosha County lack the basic literacy skills needed to function in everyday life. 13% of Wisconsin adults 18-24 and 10% of adults 25+ do not have a high school diploma or the equivalent. 46% of Wisconsin’s foreign born population over five years old do not speak English well. With your help, we can change these statistics and transform lives through the power of language and education.

Qualifications
All that’s required is a readiness to share your time and a passion for helping those in need. Since Kenosha Literacy Council provides the initial training and continued support of our volunteer tutors, no teaching experience is required. Your dedication can help adults in our community reach their full potential.

Tutor Training
We ensure all volunteers are well-prepared to engage with our learners. Our training program offers approximately 14 hours of instruction, including class observations, teaching adult learners, curriculum understanding and cultural awareness. Our training is spread over a one-week period, but is flexible and designed to accommodate your busy schedule.
