One-on-One Tutor Job Description
Purpose of the Position:
To help adults improve their English reading, writing and speaking skills in a comfortable, one-to-one learning environment.
Qualifications: Dependable and prompt, excellent ability to relate to others, respectful of differences, literate, flexible, patient, and able to maintain confidentiality. Ability to provide your own transportation. Must be at least 18 years old.
Training: Attend Kenosha Literacy Council’s Tutor Training as well as periodic in-services.
Tutoring Sites: In a public place such as a library, church, community center, school or other location that is convenient for both parties. The 1:1 Program Coordinator can help pairs find appropriate meeting locations.
Time Commitment: A minimum of six months after training. The tutor and learner should meet once or twice a week for sessions lasting one to two hours.
Duties:
- Meet regularly and punctually.
- Prepare each lesson to meet the individual needs of the learner.
- Assign manageable tasks and provide positive feedback.
- Follow the methods and teaching techniques demonstrated in the tutor training.
- Inform Coordinator or Program Director of any problems encountered in the tutoring.
Reports Required: A Progress Report must be turned into the Program Director by the 10th of every month.
