Drop-In Tutor Job Description
Purpose of the Position:
To help adults learn to communicate in the English language in a comfortable, one-to-one or small group learning environment.
Qualifications: Ability to speak, read and write English, dependable, patient, flexible, respectful of differences, and able to maintain confidentiality. Physical requirements include the ability to climb stairs and sit for extend periods of time. Ability to provide your own transportation. Age 16 or older.
Training: Attend Kenosha Literacy Council’s Tutor Training as well as periodic in-services.
Tutoring Sites: Learning Lab sites which may or may not be handicap accessible.
Time Commitment: A minimum of six months after training. The program is flexible but it is suggested that drop-in tutors give 2 hours per week.
Duties:
- Follow the lesson plan in the student file.
- Utilize the methods and practices presented at tutor training.
- Write learner progress in student file after each tutoring session.
- Provide positive feedback and encouragement to learners.
- Inform Coordinators or Program Director of problems.
Reports Required: Lesson summaries
