Using Technology
The presentation “Using Technology” focuses on integrating the internet into literacy lessons. It includes several activities for tutors and students to complete together as well as links to relevant websites.

Internet Glossary” is a collection of important vocabulary for using the internet.

Parts of a Computer” is a list of computer terms with simple definitions and pictures.

KLC’s “Internet Guide” includes information about browsers, search engines, and setting up free email accounts.


How to Teach Writing
The presentation “How to Teach Writing” gives an overview of the writing process. It includes activities that tutors can use with students.

Reading Resources
The presentation “Reading Resources” looks at the different components of reading: phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

A free copy of the book “Applying Research in Reading Instruction for Adults: First Steps for Teachers”: is available for download from the National Institute for Literacy.

This is a wonderful resource that introduces tutors to scientifically based reading research, clearly defines the components of reading and gives many ideas for instruction. A copy of the book is also available through the Kenosha Literacy Council.
