Become a Tutor - Interested in teaching English to new immigrants or low literate adults?
We need you!
Tutor Qualifications – No teaching experience required!
We are looking for individuals who have the time and personal commitment to contribute to our mission which is to provide literacy education for adults in our community. Since Kenosha Literacy Council provides the initial training and continued support of our volunteer tutors, no teaching experience is required. We will teach you the A, B, C’s of tutoring! What is required is a willingness to share one's time and desire to help others who have a need.
Becoming a Tutor
All you have to do to become a trained literacy tutor is:
- Visit us for an informal interview and to observe our drop-in tutoring.
- Participate in one of KLC’s Tutor Trainings.
Tutor Training
All volunteers participate in an extensive but fun training program that prepares them to work effectively with our students. Our combined ESL and Basic Literacy training involves approximately 14 hours of instruction, including class observations, teaching adult learners, curriculum and cultural awareness. While the training is spread out over a week-long period, we are flexible and try to accommodate your busy schedule.
We offer several trainings a year. Please see the Calendar of Events page or call to find out when then next Tutor Training is scheduled.
For more information about how you can become a volunteer tutor, contact Cheryl Hernandez by calling 262-654-7323, emailing cheryl@kenoshalit.org or completing our online application.
